Colvend

Colvend is the centre of the Community area. It has a Church, a shop, a cafe, a school and a Public Hall, Parish Hall and a tourist information centre.

A mobile Post Office visits  Colvend three times a week:  Monday 09:00 - 10:00,  Wednesday 10:30-11:30 and Friday 13:30 - 14:30.

Colvend Church is about half a mile along the road to Rockcliffe. It is an attractive building built in 1911 and you can click here for a fuller description. The shop and cafe are right at the heart of the community. The shop is particularly well stocked and if you are a visitor to the area it is a great place for local information.

The school serves the villages of Colvend, Rockcliffe, Kippford, Sandyhills and Caulkerbush. It was originally built in 1794 to replace a school at Barcloy. It is now a modern go-ahead school and there is all the information about it in the School Handbook.

The Community Council meets in Colvend Public Hall and local groups such as the Badminton Club, an indoor sports club also use the Hall regularly. There is a Produce & Makers Market monthly from April to November and a takeaway pizza van visits the village every month.

The Public Hall has excellent acoustics and concerts ocasionally are held in the Hall. The highlight being when it features as one of the venues of the Dumfries & Galloway Arts Festival in May. It is available to hire and suitable for a wide range of functions from wedding receptions to small meetings.
